I have 2 equines. The first is a section A that has gone down with laminitis for the first time this week. She is coming up 4 years.
My second is an appaloosa x tb also nearly 4. I am keen to keep her barefoot if posible once she is broken in.
I have been following some of the threads on here and have decided to listen to you guys and try them on brewers yeast and magox. Can anyone advise me of the right quantities for the above horses. Also would dried nettles be of benefit to the pony?
Thankies

I'm not experienced enough on feeding minerals but I would advise joining this yahoo group, link to it on their website here http://ecirhorse.com/index.php/laminitis
lots of advice and support on the group, sounds like you will need it, sorry to hear your Sec A is laminitic at such a young age. What's his condition score? I think Sec A's are prone to insulin resistance if they are even a tad over normal.
Good luck

Thank you Muff for your reply. The web site looks useful. Yes it is a shame she has developed it although she dosn't seem too bad at the moment. I think we have caught it reasonably early on. I called the vet just as soon as she went lame. Funnily enough the vet also mentioned insulin resistance and EMS. I would condition score her at 3 to 31/2. She is only slightly overweight but has developed a bit of a crest. Apparantly her mother was put down at the age of 5 due to lami so maybe it could be hereditry?

The 'heavy' mag ox (97%) is recommended to be fed at 2g per 100kg of horse. If feeding Cal Mag instead, that is only 54% pure, do is fed at 4g per 100kg. It's about a quarter of the price of the heavy stuff though. Just introduce it slowly - some don't like the taste. I have to mix it for one of mine with water and syringe it into her!
As for brewers yeast, i think my 15.2's get about 25g a day. I'll go and check now. Cheaper to buy it in bulk from Hardwood Milling though :)
