Brewer's Yeast - Where to buy? And How often?

I have been following the sweet-itch/marmite post with interest and as a result, would like to try feeding Brewer's Yeast.

I've searched online and there are many suppliers, but I would like to know which one you would recommend?

Also, does this need to be fed daily to make sure it's effective? Or would 3 times a week or so be sufficient?

Ask your local tack shop, then you dont need to pay postage!

Your local feed or tack shop should be able to order it for you. I used to use Westgate Gold Label at about £9 for 1.5kg but have just bitten the bullet and bought 25kg from Charnwood for about £42 delivered, a huge saving if you can use it up quick enough. Introduce slowly and feed daily if you can or at least every other day for it to have any effect.

I would say has to be fed everyday to be really effective, but if your horse only has mild SI it would probably make a difference. I feed 15 grams a day. And I buy it from wherever has some on offer!

I used to buy it from holland and barrets same thing but in tablet form and for a fraction of the price. does exactly same thing!

But you would need to feed a lot of tablets to a horse! only does the same thing if fed at the right amount

yes i can remember how many i used as was years ago. I used it to help but weight on my horse recommended by richard maxwell. 7-9 tablets a day rings a bell (i think). I noticed a difference.

i spoke to my yard manager and she said that you should not give yeast to horses as they can not digest it what do you think?

I feed mine - 16.2 clydesdale and 15.1 cob a tablespoon twice a day. I have also found that feeding them linseed helps too.

Last year I also feed clivers - from Feedmark and not expensive and this really made a huge difference to the itching, so ideally a combination of all three.

I get my linseed and brewers yeast from Charnwood Milling as even with delivery they are the cheapest. However, if you only want to try a smaller amount, then Feedmark do linseed and BY under their basics range, as do Simple Systems.

Try your local agri feed shop - if you have a Harbro nearby they can get it for you

If you are in the catchment area for Charnwood they can supply it too

Anything more than £4 a Kg is a rip off - so don't pay it!
