Well I bit the bullet and made the decision to move yards.

Now I have a choose between a large brick stable or a wooden stable. I don't know what the difference is so if anyone could give me some advise.

Bearing in mind it is hot most of the year but it does get cold in winter. I am also not sure about a brick stable as my horse kicks the door.

doors are made of wood...so no problem there!

brick stables are great, i am lucky, i have both at home, but the old fashioned brick ones seem "cosier"!!!

Brick is much warmer in winter and cooler in summer. We have both and have never known the water buckets freeze in the brick stables - but they do in the wooden ones!

If you want to drill into them to put things up they are likely to be much more firmly fixed than in a wooden stable. If I could have afforded it I'd have had brick instead of wood for the new ones when they were put up.

Sorry - going the other way - been in brick for years at different yards - always baking hot inside in the summer.

Got wooden now at home (admittedly proper wood not just tongue and groove and lines in decent ply not chipboard stuff)

Cool in summer, warm in winter (my lad has not had to wear so many rugs this year even when it's been cold) and water buckets definitely never frozen.

Depends..does your horse kick? One of mine has just demolished a solid block wall because her constant kicking broke all the mortar joints..at least have rubber or wooden kick boards put in if you are going to use a brick stable

Brick, weve had both and the wooden ones were nothing but problems. Weve just built new stables in brick (well breeze block) and they are much much warmer and alot dryer!

Wooden ones are more of a fire hazard and also if the wood is not really well preserved it will absord and become a breeding ground for bacteria etc.

I also agree that some brick stables can be baking hot in the summer. But I have moved to a new brick stable that has a window and its lovely and cool. I think with either types it just depends on the ventelation.
