my mare is a 16hh belgian warmblood. we are doing working hunter, a pre veteran ridden class and a riding club horse classes in the near future and i wonder if u could recommend me which type of bride i should use please? i am tempted to by a hunter style (with not too thick noseband) what do u think? :)

If you're doing hunter type classes then definitely a hunter style bridle with plain flat nose band and brow band would be best. It's what I show my horse in and I do coloured and hunter classes with her.

Bridle to suit her 'type'. If she's a twiglet then Pretty Pony ribbons. If she's a big strapping hunter type, plain, workman leather. If you're sneaking her into the wrong class (eg hunter type into Riding Horse) that bridle to suit the class. 'Non-type' classes (like Riding Club, Veteran etc) should be bridle for her type too.

Should's like she's more hunter type? Def buy a flat noseband then, with thicker leather (maybe beg borrow or steal a couple of bridles to see what suits her).

thanks for the replies :)

She certainly isnt a twiglet lol.....heres a recent pic of her. No weight crit please- shes just been aquainted with a grazing muzzle this week! ;)

Very nice. She a lovely colour. Agreed, no twiglet there!;)

She'll look really smart in a hunter bridle. I'd go for 3/4" leather I think, with a 1 1/4 " noseband, min. I'd borrow one to try first tho to check it suits. She'll also need a pelham or snaffle (no gag).

thanks, i think she will too :)

id really love to try her in a double. She has been shown in one previously but i will see if my instructor thinks i will cope!lol....ps its not a gag she has in on that pic but a nue schule elevator ;)

ETA: Also she had a very nasty head wound about 2 months ago which has healed very well however she had to have her forelock shaved off to have her staples put in! its growing back but not sure what to do if she still has no forelock by show time!!? .............oh AND she always wears a flash- i wonder how she will cope without as i cant imagine u can use one with a hunter style bridle?!

Tiny pic on phone so it looks like a gag ;) But no funky bits allowed. Snaffle, pelham (ideally a rugby) or double.

How long is her forlock? Enough to fold in half and band? I'd just leave it if now.

No, flash looks silly in showing and is frowned upon. And you can't wear one with a pelham or double anyways.
