I have a homebred that I’ve always had issues with re-tossing her head. She has been x rayed and examined from head to toe. I am seriously thinking it is pressure behind her ears from a bridle/headcolloar. Has anyone used a Dy’on bridle or anything similar to good effect. I’ve tried lots of padded bridles and ergonomic ones. However, she has a big atlas bone, with little room, that slides everything to the back of her ears. The more padded and shaped they are seems to make it worse, as she is a Connie TB with a pony ish small head. It’s a no to Micklem, Fairfax and a few other brands. Nothing seems to stay back from her ears? Padding does not help in the case. I’ve worked out that a grackle is more stable on her and stops everything jiggling about and it’s not her bit or saddle, as we’ve done both to death. HELP! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve just spoken with Evo, also very helpful. I will call them next week. Thanks
I have a terrible feeling it is nerve pain around the ear area. As she often lays her ears back when it’s windy, or when she is cantering. She also does a lot of head tossing in the canter. It is so frustrating, as I’ve been trying to find an answer for a very long time.

I wonder if there’s any kind of body worker / myofascial type person that could help with this? Maybe you could ask around locally? It sounds frustrating and I’m sure you just want her to be comfortable and happy.

Have you had a look at Horsemanship Saddlery? I’m currently thinking about getting their Avante anatomical style. The lady would be happy to advise if you give her a call, I’m sure. She’s very helpful!
I tried one of these on my boy the other day with a bridle fitter and he really liked it. Abit out of my budget though at the moment.

OP have you looked at the Shires velocity rapida headpiece? It’s anatomical and padded but has a gap in the middle that might offer some relief.

I’ve just ordered an Equine Balance bridle that was on sale as it looks an interesting minimalist design

I have recently bought a Premier Equine Verdura bridle for my mare. It gives really great clearance behind her ears due to the cut back design of the headpiece, which she seems to appreciate. It might be worth a look for yours.
