After the GreyDonk snapped the headpiece on his everyday bridle, I have decided to bite the bullet and just buy him a new one . . . I don't have a huge budget - don't want to spend more than £120'ish . . . would prefer something easy to clean (so no fancy stitching or coloured padding or piping) . . . comfort headpiece . . . flash fixing removable (he only wears a flash for jumping and I can't stand seeing that little flappy bit when the flash isn't in use) . . . padded noseband - either crank or regular, doesn't matter.

I don't want synthetic - must be decent-quality leather. Oh, and it must be black.

Any ideas/direct recommendations based on firsthand experience?

Sorry on phone and posted too soon meant to say but no flash option. So far I quite like it. It is a bit different to a normal bridle and takes some getting used to.

Thanks all . . . anyone else got experience with the Micklem? The GD is quite fussy about stuff around his mouth (outside not in). Also, all the pics I've seen show the bridle with a bit with fixed-ring bits - would it still work with a loose ring french link?

Finally, how adjustable is it . . . GD is 16.2hh but he has quite a small head so I often have things on the last hole (if that makes sense).

On the Micklem I have a loose ring bit on mine. It is reasonably good size wise as it comes in 3 horse sizes rather than just full and cob.

My horse has long whiskers and was quite sensitive about the noseband initially but is happy now.

Oh that's interesting re the sizes . . . so, a 16.2hh sporthorse with quite a small face would be what size do you think? Full bridles are often bordering on too big . . . cobs too wide and pony too small.

Not sure to be honest I am using a standard horse size on a cob x tb who is 14.2 but has a huge head so could be comparable to a 16.2 with a small head. I think someone said on another thread you can hire them and it may be worth doing that as much to see if it is right for you and your horse as to check sizes.
