Bridle with drop noseband?

As above - does such a thing exist? Those of you who have been following my posts will know that my 5yo is currently being reschooled as a result of 'random and sporadic' naughtiness lol. (yes all checks have been carried out) Bascially he is a lazy lump who occasionally decides to liven things up with a gallop - but I do mean gallop!! Can happen from walk. trot. canter - wherever and whenever he feels like it. With schooling he is settling but when he shoots off he opens his mouth - I'm not overly keen on a flash, esp as 90% of the time he is so good and thought a drop would be better. However I am due a new bridle so thought I'd buy one with a drop attached to find out they don't exist............... or do they?

There are a couple of manufacturers who make really expensive ones - I think Barnsby possibly??

I've just got a cheapy one from Robinsons, though the sizing is way out. I bought a Requisite hunter bridle and then a separate drop noseband so that I could swap them around (I do flatwork in the hunter noseband, long rein in the drop and I also bought a separate grackle which I jump in). I found that the browbands are huge on Robinsons bridles - my 17hh IDx could get away with cob size browband (seriously! I've thrown away the browband from the bridle itself and bought a different one because it was baggy

). The reins are also short - my Xfull bridle came with reins shorter than an old set on a cob size bridle. I could have got away with a full size drop too, instead of XF.

So dodgy sizing but worth a look if you just want to try it out. You could always just buy the drop noseband from Robinsons (think I paid £7??) and take the noseband on your existing bridle off.

Chestnut cob - that all sounds a bit complicated for me, my horse is between sizes as it is......... trying to figure out what size of requisite one I need would blow my brain ha ha
 
LOL! TBH the Requisite ones are so cheap that it didn't bother me throwing away the browband that was massive and buying another smaller one. I think I paid something like £19 for the hunter bridle, another £7 for the drop noseband, then bought the second browband a few weeks later for maybe £8. So still not expensive but you do get what you pay for... the leather quality isn't great (it stretches quickly and the rubber on the reins is stiff) but it suited me at the time because I didn't want to pay a fortune for a bridle with drop noseband only to find my horse hated it!

I guess thats a fair point!! Maybe I should invest in cheapo noseband for current bridle to check he doesn't hate it before I buy a whole bridle! I used to ride with no noseband and can't be bothered with both straps on the flash lol, i also hate having to fasten it so tightly (I'm a sap) Figure I can leave the drop a little bit looser but it'll still work. Does that sound right?
 
yes, the drop will have more of a direct effect without being as tight as the flash.

worth trying before you buy-my boy hates drops and prefers a snug flash, i think the flash helps stabilise the bit as well, which some horses appreciate. i also school a mare with a very nervous mouth-she sucks her bit and almost pushes it side to side in her mouth but gets upset if she then cant move it back (same in any bit). a snug flash strap stops her shoving it side to side so stops the panic attacks when she then cant move it back.
 
A flash isn't supposed to be done up really tightly anyway but yes, you wouldn't do up a drop tightly. I would have mine looser than I would a flash as it's just to encourage him not to open his mouth.

I think you can only buy the drop from Robinsons as a separate noseband so I'd buy the cheapy noseband first then if you like it, buy a nice bridle with one later on.
 
Thanks guys, think i'll try cheapo noseband first. I don't actually fasten the flash tightly enough lol as I just don't like the thought of it - everything seems tight to me after riding with no noseband ha ha. Also previous two horses were just in cavessons so I'm not used to 'strapping anything shut' as such
