Sorry, me again. I want to buy a Jeffries bridle for showing and working hunter. Is it correct not to have a flash noseband? Anyone got any suggestions on which of the five types of Jeffires bridle would be the best? You can see them at ejeffries.co.uk. She is a small hunter type. Sorry to be a pain, but I like her to be wearing the appropriate stuff. We'll loose enough marks with my riding, don't need to loose any for turn out!! x

If you are doing small hunter then you need a flat broadish noseband and browband - all traditional stuff no raised bits or fancy stitching. Like the Jeffries Wembley with plain noseband.

If you are doing working hunter you can use flash/grakle/drop etc but keep the rest of the bridlework plain and workmanlike.

In small hunter you would want to use a pelham/double bridle with 2 reins. In working hunter - whatever your horse goes best in for jumping but you cannot change the tack between jumping and ride/conformation section, apart from removing brushing boots.

ha, i'm asking myself the same Q's!!! I have a Jeffries elite (flash) for general stuff and I really like it (got it new of Ebay for £30!). However the basic one - cant remember name, is quite plain but decent enough and should get £80 ish inc reins. Others are getting up to £150+ plus reins. I belive the only difference is, the basic style is machine made, the others are handmade. If you're just going to pull it out for showing (not day to day stuff) I would think the simple one would be OK. My boy is Anglo, so quite fine, but I believe they do different thinknesses if needed.

Workers can use whatever bridle you like. However, I would check out what Fylde Saddlery have to offer - they do lovely show bridles where you can mix and match browband and noseband sizes and styles.

I like Jefferies, but actually buy from Fylde. The leather is just as nice and they have a brilliant range of nosebands. Plus - they will make to measure - my coloured native is bigger than a cob, but smaller than a full size so they make 'extra cob' size for me.
