I'm looking to get a new bridle for Mr G - have decided as he is such a good boy, he deserves something quite posh for his new dressage career (!).

I quite like the look of the Stubben 4000 Carlow (I fancy something rolled), but have read a few reports that the leatherwork on Stubben gear isn't up to much anymore? Any views?

I also like the look of the Passier Neptune and the Albion KB super snaffle (would prefer a plain cavesson to a flash), but other ideas welcome. The latter two are getting pretty pricey.....

Christmas cake to all ( I made one yesterday - glorious when it came out of the oven, now appears to have taken the form and weight of a round brick since cooling off!! Think it should taste good though!)

Ditto above. Had mine coming up to 2 years and I love it.
Not that model but it always gets compliments.

The only thing i dont like is i think the flash has stretched?! It seems overly long and i think i will have to get it shortened.
Have only used mine for shows and looked after it really well though.

I have had my stubben bridle for about 10yrs now and tbh I haven't really looked after it but when I give it a good clean it comes up like new! Wouldn't even consider any other make!

I'm another one who has has a Stubben for over 10 years, originally bought just for shows but now use everyday. It's been on lots of different horses & I don't really look after it but a quick wipe & it's as good as new. :)

I think the bad reports are about the CTD range rather than the original stuff?

CTD is the cheaper stuff they make and I think the leather on that isn't as nice as the 'proper' Stubben stuff...

I think that's how it works anyway! :o

So bridle came today, Stubben Carlow 4000 rolled - it's lovely - georgous leather and looks great, however two problems:

1 - the reins have been manufactured incorrectly, so if buckled up at the join correctly, the billet fastening for one rein is the wrong way round on one side ( :( )
2 - it comes up a bit small! Tried it on G and I wouldn't really want to have the throat latch tighter than second from bottom; noseband, second or third from bottom so not so bad; however, the rolled browband does feel a little tight......it is a bit hard and still in a fixed shape as it is new, so reckon that after it gives a bit it would be softer and so fit across the forehead better, if that makes sense? (I measured it against his current bb and it is the same length, though I had wanted him to have something with a little more room....) I can't use a different (maybe blingy!) browband on it, as the browband is integral to the fit of the headstall and throat latch, each having a seperate opening - http://www.equiporium.co.uk/stubben-4000-carlow-rolled-bridle-snaffle-double-/prod_575.html for pic - not where I bought it. TBH, the fit of the bb looks similar to the light bay in the pics - a little pinched at the size and roomy in front.

So what to do? Have e-mailed shop to tell them about reins and that they need to be replaced, but it was a one off special buy, stock clearance, so I'm reckoning they might not have any more rolled rubber Stubben reins, so that might pose a problem. Regards the size, it's ok, it does fit, but do we think it might be more desirable to have a bit more room in it? It's a lovely bridle, I'm loathe to send it back and it was great price! Sigh. Why is nothing simple! lol.

But it's lovely!! (lol)

If they can't do anything about the reins, then yep, I guess a refund......

If I was certain about the fit, then I wouldn't be so worried, as I think we (via shop) could probably send the reins to Stubben - it is an obvious manufacturing fault and I would expect they would replace them?

Or a refund on the reins and just but some stubben reins seperately they are quite easy to come by......

:)

PS Springy - have a Schokemohle bridle on my watch list on E-bay - an Ascot rolled with a diamante bb in large for a good price - do you know how the sizes come up?

Also, have been looking for Stubben rolled reins (to match the bridle) and they don't seem easy to come by at all ....

I have two Stubben bridles - one of which is 9 years old, the other about 3 yrs - both are soft and supple. I don't care for them particularly well but they still look great.

They come up 'normal' our 16.3hh sport gelding fitted into a full. see te hunting forum if you need to see a pic of him although in that pic he has a stubben one on)

My friend has a beautiful brown one grackle stunning still with tags as she isnt using it she bought it on a whim and I think she wants £60 for it

its got like metal on the brow band if that makes sense she also bought that from the horse wardrobe

If it wasnt a grackle I would ripped her hand off for it

:)

Stunning bridle! I have always loved Stubben stuff. Had some bits and bobs for the old boy.

If it was me I would def keep it, particularly if it's for dressage rather than showing.:)
