There is currently an online petition for more bridleways. However, not many people know about it. Endurance GB have discovered it and published the link in their UK newsletter. It has been spotted and we thought we ought to do something about getting more people to sign it.

Details below, which are copied from the EGB magazine:

"The Government is under pressure from riding groups to equal the number of
bridleways in the country (currently approx 20,000 miles) up to the same
level as footpaths (approx 91,000) miles to help reduce horses on the
road/accidents while promoting outdoor activity and safe use of the
countryside for all sexes and ages.
This will only happen if people sign the online petition.
Please sign to help get riders equal rights to walkers/ramblers".

How do they suggest they make more bridleways? Land owners will be less than pleased, more traffic, land damage, who is to install horse gates, stronger bridges and de value land. Much better to make what we have safer esp where they cross roads railways etc

How will this happen? Change the status of some footpaths to bridleways? The majority of footpaths around me are completely unsuitable for horses either because they are just too narrow or cross land unsuited for horse use. Or just create new RoW? Where? How will you convince/compensate landowners for loss of more land and increased liability/maintenance. In theory I agree but logically I cannot see how it will work.
