Preferably welsh D sales...

Does anybody have any experience with these? I would like to go and buy 2 in the autumn sales but thinking about getting a catalog in may and going to one prior to buying.

Has anyone got any welshies from these sales? Could I be cheeky and ask how much they were and if you have a picture?

Any other information regarding the sales would be very much appreciated!

I have bought before-

Most important: SET YOUR SELF A LIMIT and DO NOT GO ABOVE IT!

Remember that you pay VAT on ALL lots.

If there is a * next to name you will be paying double VAT

Get catalogue before sale- Buy for a reason- not a whim!

Have a good look round on sale morning- you may find something by sight rather than by breeding

Have fun and good luck!

I have bought 2 weanlings at Brightwells. Both are now 2 yr olds and I wouldnt swop them for the world. Love them to bits. Brightwells are good auctioneers and the whole thing is very well run. I echo all what Purple Duck has said.

bought a lovely 2 year old there a couple of summers ago- hes fab! was pittance as he wouldnt go in the ring properly (he was unhandled!) and has been fantastic ever since. its probably a good idea to go and get a feel for it if you've never been before as it can be packed out with people and the bidding can move quickly.

IF you buy on the first day then remember you will need to stable over night if you are staying for the second day- so think about feed bucket/water bucket/hay/feed/bedding or night- HEADCOLLAR- sometimes sellers only leave you with a headstall which isn't best for travelling home.

Then- Travelling home- IF you know that you are going to buy then arrange travelling before hand- otherwise there is normally a chalk or white board with lorries going homewards- for a fee they will travel pony home so cost that in as extra

Do people usually stay all weekend? I guess if there are horses i like on a certain day when i read the catalog I can just head up for that one day

Couple of points.
1. You do not pay VAT on all lots, you only pay VAT @20% on the lots where it is declared in the catelogue, be careful when you study the catelogue as this can catch out the unwary. You do pay comission of 5% on all lots and VAT ON THE COMISSION for all lots.

2. Having both bought and sold at the sales I can vouch for the fact that there is definitley bargains to be had. There is a spring sale in April for all sections A to D and the cob sales in the Autumn (October ) where usually 900 to 1000 Cs and Ds; are sold.
More information may be found on Brightwells website.

You have a few Brightwell sales before the Autumn cob sale so get some practise in, order the catalogues and mark out the horses you think you might be interested in then go along and see how your selections go. I wouldn't be as brave as to turn up on the day with no experience.
The Autumn cob sales are a massive deal on the welsh calender with buyers coming from every corner and abroad. Also when selecting any of interest google the name of the horse and it should come up with any previous auctions its been entered in. Certainly there is a lot of pressure on Brightwells and vets involved to ensure welfare conditions are high.
Last year I was planning on going, had my cobs of interest marked then a week or so before going I found what I was looking for for sale privately.
