Looks like plenty not sold even at what to me look like reasonable bids £5800 for a foal is not, in my mind a small sum of money when you equate it to the risks involved.

Wonder what prices will be like tonight for the dressage/jumping horses.
 
You have to wonder if its financially worth breeding with those prices, the costs of getting the foal on the ground can't be much less.
 
I'm with you on why breed your own when you can buy at these sort of prices. I know we have just had one of our mares put in foal and the basic cash cost of vets package, stud fee and grooms fee is over £1,000 and that's before you keep the mare for 11 months whilst in foal, pay any costs associated with foaling and then keep the foal until it's weened. Sales costs are going to be a minimum of £275.
