Brightwells Foal Show - August 18th Addington

I haven't been since they cut it down to just Dressage foals, I have the 2002 Show Jumping Foal Champion mare on my yard and she came 4th in 2001. It was huge when they had sections for all the three main disciplines! Shame it might have to be cancelled due to lack of entries now!

Belated Congratulations!!!

I dont know why they stopped the jumping & eventing sections - perhaps it is because they have a dressage horse auction afterwards, so there is no market for the other types at that event?

Perhaps they could join forces with the BEF Futurity series of shows, who do have seperate sections - it seems a shame as there are plenty of good foals bred over here & no real showcase for them.

I didn't have her when she won....I snaffled her after that on a 3 foal breeding lease, she one in 2003 and one in 2004 but do you think I can get the thrid foal out of her! She's refusing to have the third, she got infoal last year scanned to 30 days and then she lost it after that. I still love her though, its going to break my heart when she goes back (eventually!)

I completely agree, there is no real showcase for foals, I want to do the futurity this year, but after taking 4 of mine to the 2003 foal show i said if I ever do it again I would only take one possibly two tops! Four was a nightmare and lets just say I have some cracking photos of foals rearing, bucking and generally doing everything other than appealling themselves to the judges! Then there was the one that kept jumping out the temp stabling at the flapping roof! I don;t think mine showcased themselves that well that day! I would have such a hard time picking which ones to take this year I have 3 colts that are virtually identical!

Yes I think 2 at a time is plenty - you will just have to go to 2 BEF shows!!!!

The first one is next week - so you will have to get your skates on!

Word is that it clashes with Adam Kemp's civil partnership ceremony so all the buyers, trainers and staff are going to that so many breeders don;t see the point in sending any foals up, especialy now that the Futurity is attracting such big numbers and prestige.

Also the constant prefernce Brightwells have for mediocre imported ridden horses (and over-priced broodmares) at their sales has put people off entering more and more over the years.

It's sad for the Holdenfold/Mooiman people who are sponsoring it though m especially as it is no fault of theirs.

They said that they stopped the other sections becuase the foals didn't fetch a high enough price in the auction -- which is hardly suprising when you are trying to auction an eventing foal to a load of dressage riders <sigh>

The problem about doing anything with RB to promote British Breeding is that he will always try to combine it with his (actually much less impressive and over-priced) mass imports from Holland and Germany becuase the agency relationships he has with them are how he makes the money -- so showcasing the Best of British Breeding is actually not what he is about at all.

Very sad, but it has become more and more obvious over the years, especially at las years BD champs when he auctioned exclusively imported broodmares (some of whose foals reprotedly still do not have covering certificates) when quite a number of high class British bred and/or graded mares could have been real high points in the catalogue.

Well I think she might take Junior if I asked nicely but I doubt that she'd want to take kong after how long it took to get him out the horsebox when we dropped him upto her (funny it didn't take that long to get him in the box at my end!)

Well he invented a new way of coming out, sitting on your arse, front feet splayed out in front and sliding down on your bum after 2 hours of trying to get him to at least step on the ramp! I think loading and UNloading lessons are in order before he goes anywhere
