Evening all, James here. I was first up so i'll tell you all about my day first.
Mum fed us breakfast at half past 4 this morning, so we knew something was up, the mad cow. the usual horrible bobbles in mane stuff, then off in the box again, yay!
i warmed up beautifully for the dressage, she was so chuffed with me, best i've ever gone. went in, and she was so busy concentrating on how i felt (?i was fine, ta?!) that she forgot 2 movements. i'd just done a lovely canter transition for her, best i've ever done in a test (usually i chuck my head in the air and zoom off, tee hee), but being asked to do it again was too flipping much, so i chucked my head in the air and zoomed off. she called me a "little twit" or something, quite loudly actually, i'm sure the judge must have heard. then i was a bit naughty in the other canter too, for a laugh. we got a horrible mark, and the judge called me "disobedient", tee hee hee.
thought i'd better pull my finger out for the jumping parts, cos she was saying something about Pedigree Chum, don't know what that means but sounds ominous. i warmed up quite casually, still can't work out what to do about this new bit, it feels the same in my mouth as the dressage one but does weird things to my head, some kind of "combination" device. huh. anyway, having clouted two in the warm-up, ouch, i went in and tried really really hard and had a clear round, yay! that's 4 in a row, she can't believe it. then whizzed round the easy-peasy xc, was even very brave at the step into water, cos mummy brought me back to trot first and let me sum it up for a bit longer. we didn't have any disagreements about striding and i really enjoyed myself, fences were too small though, what does she think i am, some useless donkey? bring it on! so, finished on dressage score for 4th time, but pants score meant no rosette, boo.
got washed off, deplaited, destudded, shoved back on lorry and started taking it apart again. she's only just noticed that i made a wicked dent in the ceiling a couple of weeks ago!
Katy here. had to wait on the box munching hay till lunchtime, then it was my turn. serious dressage trainer was here last week and told mummy how to ride me when i'm totally impossible, so i warmed up connected and round and actually let her ride me a bit. went into test and she kept me like that, slow and connected, said it was a phase i have to go through. she was in sitting trot the whole time too, on advice of trainer, because it stops me from escaping, huh. dressage judge hated it though... mind you, she doesn't know how much worse i could have been! mummy was really pleased with me, anyway, i did everything in the right place, i didn't have hysterics, and i stayed round - no giraffe-on-speed stuff today, but i was like a coiled-up spring the whole time.
mummy saw Tina Ure, our sj guru, while warming up for the dressage, and she very kindly came and helped us warm up. new bit again, some huge vile fat vulcanite pelham thingy, she says she hasn't had to use it for about 12 years! mummy had control, and i didn't fight it at all. tina was brilliant, really helped.
i'd heard mummy say something about not running me xc if i showjumped badly or ripped my mouth again, well, i wasn't having any of that, i love galloping and don't get to do any of it at home, mummy's so boring. so i really tried hard and somehow managed to go clear, yay, unbelievable, especially as the course was twisty and had short related distances on turns and things, that i usually fight about quite spectacularly. we did do a weird detour to the last fence because she forgot where she was going, the daft bint, but i still left it up even though we got to it on the angle. mummy's family actually cheered and clapped, crikey, so embarrassing, good job i'm dark bay or you'd have seen me blushing. got loads of hugs and polos, so that was alright. must try to remember that.
went and whizzed around the xc, easy peasy, mummy made me trot to a couple and didn't let me go half as fast as i wanted to, but it was fun. so, finished on utterly pants dressage score, but mummy's absolutely over the moon with me.
cookies and polos if you got this far!

well done, thats great.....shame about the dressage-but with both of them still sounds like its better in terms of finding a way to ride them....so well done

Well done for the jumping Katy and James but do try and help mummy with all the circles and other horrid dressage stuff, its only 6 mins then you get to go and have fun

Well done Katy and James, you're doing so well!!! Keep plugging away at the dressage....you'll make mum very happy if you just can just keep it together for 6 minutes!!!

Clever James and Katy, keeping the "daft bint" (that's a bit rude actually Katy

) happy. Shall I remind you (again) that the quicker you do the going round in circles bit nicely, the less you have to do?
wink.gif
Oh, and whilst she wants you "on the bit" she doesn't want you "on your head" - there isn't much difference between the two but I got into such trouble for that last time that all I seem to be doing is circles now.

What great reports James and Katy! Well done for the SJ and XC but I think you may have to work at the dreaded 'd' word a bit.

Well done you pair, you just love the jumping bits so much and you're very good at them. Why don't you ask mummy if you can just skip the circles bit first, I'm sure no-one would mind!

What clever ponies, now just think how many more polo's and carrots you will get if you manage to play ball in the boring bit?!. Verging on sleep walking works well, as silly owners think we are being "calm" and "obedient", and it preserves energy for the fun XC bit
