I am planning on bringing my mare back into work after a very long lay-off. She had a foal in 2008, didn't get in foal in 2009 and then got diagnosed with laminitis and Cushings in June 2010. She has been lami free since then and the Cushings is under control. I want to bring her back into work VERY slowly. She is a typical chestnut mare and quite highly strung. Would anyone mind suggesting a fittening rountine for her

Thanks in advance

If she were mine, for the first month I would build up The walking- I would start with just a 5/ 10 min sit on, then 20, then 30 and just slowly build it up. do short block hacks so you don't do too much, and if she's exhausted after 20 mins, but you wanted to be out for 30, listen to her and take her home.

Steady and slow, if you rush things you'll put too much strain on her. Maybe start out being sat on every other day? Again- follow your nose and see how she goes!!

Without knowing the mare, I wouldn't like to be specific

However, definately Don't start for a few days, then leave her off for a week or something though!!!

Good luck :-D she'll come back, you just have to be patient!!!
