Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone had any idea's on what and how i can bring my horse back into work with no saddle?. Long story short that hes been on and off work for around 2months and just had about a month off and i brought him back into work sunday but i don't think hes happy in the saddle at all (but thats another story/issue) so i pessoa'ed him yesterday for 3 minutes and was thinking of 3 lunging tonight but im stuck for any other ideas?. Bareback is not a option due to the fact he is just being brought back into work so i probally wont be staying on very long:o:rolleyes: so if anyone has anything that i could do with him? just to start building fitness and getting back into a working regime would be fab
Thank you :)

Lunging & longlining. Over poles too. Does he lead from another horse to take out hacking? If not already bombproof could do some in hand bombproofing stuff. Inhand hacking.

Thank you :) never longlined so thats something ill have to give a go!. Hes quite a handful out hacking when im on board so wouldnt want to risk while leading/inhand:o

A combination of long reigning & lunging - have you seen the new Laura B lunging aid? I prefer this to a pessoa, as it allows them to stretch and work over their backs nicely.

When I long reign my horse (and I did this last night), I put cones and obstacles out that I steer him round and over to add variety and interest. The only downside is that you need to be quite fit to keep up!!!!!

Nope i haven't i shall go take a quite look:D

Ah may keep him intrested for a while:rolleyes: Thank you x

Whereabouts are you - as we might be the same area as I'm Oxon/Bucks too?

I was going to suggest borrowing a treeless saddle to ride him in, and I would have lent you mine, but as I'd not used it for a while I recently sold it. I have a 16.5" medium wide saddle here that might fit if you wanted to try if local?

Whats the matter with current saddle? Did it fit before, can you not get it altered at all to fit him now? Or would it work with a correction type pad, as I have one of these you could try perhaps?

Other than trying to get a saddle, lunging and long lining is good. But don't bore him with it, add lots of variety.

Sorry slow reply.. im in the chinnor/thame area.
Thank you thats very kind my current saddle is a meduim but 17.5 :(
Well im no expert but when i lunge him hes very foward etc yet when i sit on with (with the saddle) and ask for him to go into trot he just does not want too and just goes up or out, so given the impression the saddle is not sitting right or pinching somewhere. Plus he had his back done around 6 weeks ago and the other problems he has had i now have all clear from vet/farrier Yes i had a saddle out to flock it to fit him as it belonged to other pony but hes been in and out of work for 3months so muscle/fat has probally changed quite a bit so that also made me think maybe thats why the saddle isnt as comfortable anymore

Have you had his back looked at.

You could also do some passive stretching with him using either. Carrot , apple or some nuts. Making him move his back without either the saddle or a rider..

Have tried lunging him with th saddle on to see if that makes a difference. How does he move with the saddle but not a rider.

Yea had his back done by chiro not long ago.
He seems alright when lunging with saddle but when i sit on him he doesn't want to go anywhere so i was given the impression with my weight in saddle (specially when rising/siting) it was pinching/moving even more and he was telling me no mummy i don;t want to go foward cause its hurting now your on x
