Just wanted some help/advice about the possibility of bringing my horse to uni with me in September!
Still havn't decided where I'm going yet but narrowed it down to either Sussex or Exeter.
I currently live in London and Sussex is about an hour away on the train and Exeter is about 4.
Reaaaaallly wanna take my pony with me to uni as can't bear the thought of selling her or even loaning her, and either uni I go to, it will be too far to leave her in London and visit a few times a week.
Just worrying that it'll be a massive strain to balance a horse financially and time wise while i'm at uni, and wanted to know if anyone currently has their horse with them at uni or has in the past and if it was do-able!! lol! :-)
Shes a hardy welsh who prefers living out so keeping her out 24/7 would be ideal as wouldnt have to do stable chorse which would save time lol but winter might be harder!
Also (sorry for the MAMMOTH amount of questions), does anyone know of any yards/grass livery near either Sussex or Exeter unis as I seriously need to look into all this stuff asap and accept a place!
Thanks guys! :-D

Come to Bath Uni instead and she can come and live with us!! - all ours live out and I do the feeding, rug-changing, haying on a daily basis! Ask around - I'm sure you'll find somwhere through this forum, or through adverts in tack shops, feed merchants etc. near to whichever university you choose. Good luck.

It's tough but do-able, I've mostly loved having mine with me at uni but you have to be super organised and the financial worry and added stress has made me quite ill with migraines in the last year or so.

If you could find a good sharer that would be ideal. Would imagine after being in London you'll love the countryside and horsiness of Sussex or Exeter!

Theres a girl I know who does grass livery in kingston, which is one bus stop down from sussex uni, can ask her if you like? x

i did this- took mine about 50 miles away for about 12 months, on and off! just made sure that i had a yard that did livery if i wanted to go home etc and also was lucky enough to get somewhere about 8 miles away from my student house...if she cound't have gone, then I wouldn't have moved away!:D

Haha you should'nt have told me that - so wanna come and have her live with your lot lol! Ah I wish I had applied for bath now lol, but thank you, will have a looksie around and hopefully find something suitable for the pone!
Planning on going to visit Sussex in the next few days and will drag the rents around looking for potential yards!

It depends what course your doing as well. I did an arts course and had plenty of time, meant for independant reading of course, which allowed me to tend to the horse and work.

My younger sister, however, is doing a science course and is in labs every afternoon. She then works in the evenings. She has very little free time, had to get a sharer and even with said sharer I've had to help her out a little.

It might be worth trying to find out the hours in class/labs, to allow you a better idea if you will have a time to care for her properly whilst working to pay for her upkeep.
