A friend from work and I are planning to start taking horse riding lessons in the summer, but the school we had originally had in mind which was fairly local closed down years ago, as it turns out.

We're seeking decently priced riding schools that aren't miles out from the city centre and want to know where to go as soon as summer comes around. I've tried doing some research but the good ones I find are usually too far away.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried urchinwood manor?

I found it on TripAdvisor with some reviews whilst browsing Google but I couldn't find a link to a website to get more information like lesson prices, post code etc but I'll have another look for it on Google, thank you!

I've known one of the instructors there since I was 12ish, eve Poole, if she's there, it's a good yard, good luck!
I'm feeling quite confident about it, again thanks for the reccondation. My friend would be driving us there so I'll be showing him the website on Monday.

Here's to hoping!

Managed to find a place that's 22 minutes away from my house by car according to Google Maps (Gornado Valley Riding Centre) according to Google Maps. If this doesn't seal the deal then I may well be out of luck, group lesson prices seem decent as well.

What area of Bristol are you based in? Would give us some idea of where is local to you :)

I live in Bishopsworth. Been trying to find a relitavley accessible place for a few months now. I don't drive but my friend at work does and all the schools I've proposed so far have been ruled out.

Urchinwood is fantastic. We drive 45 minutes there and back and it is worth it, we live in the Bristol area and have found most of the schools a waste of time. Urchinwood has a range of horses and ponies, well schooled and the instructors are encouraging. It might be worth just having a look if you can. There lesson prices are very competitive too :)

Your friend is either mistaken about how far away Urchinwood is or is stringing you along & doesn't want to actually go. Bishopsworth to UM is about 20 mins, can't see how you'll find anything closer.
there is a RS for children near Keynsham & apparently one in Ston Easton - but that's further for you than UM.
Apart from that you'd have to go to Clevedon probably. I don't know much about Gordano Valley but it used to be terrible (& is 20 mins away also) the only other place I can think of is Lawrence Weston - there used to be a RS near Blaise Castle.
