Myself and a friend are moving our ponies to a yard in Wick and are not familiar with the area. It looks like Doynton, Pennsylvania and Dyrham are accessible from the yard - What is the hacking like?

Is there much off road riding or is it more bridle paths? I've had a look on Google maps and Dyrham Park is a hack away - is riding permitted around there?

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Doynton and Dyrham are good for hacking. You can ride the bridleppath around Dyrham Park but you used to need a licence to ride on others parts of it - not sure if that is still the case. Not sure how you would get to Pennsylvannia as I wouldn't want to ride up Sands Lane (runs alongside Dyrham Park). If you go through the Park you can get to the cross roads by the Crown Pub on the A46 and can cross there to access other areas. The main problems in that area are the A420 and the A46 both very busy. If you look on the BHS Avon facebook page there was a thread asking for riders to submit requests for assistance to cross the A46 somewhere around the Crown Pub/Junction 18 area (can't remember exactly where) so do please complete it. Dependant upon where in Wick you are you an also access Lansdown/Upton Cheyney etc. Nice bridlepath alongside the road from Doynton to Dyrham known locally as "Five Fields". Happy hacking.
