we may be moving to the Brithdir area in the Autumn but we know nothing about the equestrian side of things in that area! We do know its very beautiful. Proposed house is in Brithdir it has stables and an overgrown arena but current owners arent horsey. We train a couple of racehorses the oldfashioned way - hacking in the hills/beach, flatwork etc. Just wondering how possible that will be in this area. Would there e good outriding direct from Brithdir. Also vets and farriers in the area? Any point to point trainers locally? Any help much appreciated. We currently live in Ireland so its a bit tricky doing all the research long distance Thanks a million

Not a huge amount of help I'm afraid, but I spend hours on bing maps looking for new walks (and rides for when I can have a horse again) because unlike google maps, bing has a OS map setting.

ok thank you I will try bing maps. I had found lots of footpaths on the whatawalk app but not many bridleways. was hoping that there might just be areas of common ground where riding would be allowed maybe. Hoping when go to view i can spot a house with a horse and go and ask!!!!

Have you looked the the OS app they show all the bridleways, rights of ways in the area, it helped me lots when we moved to Wales, but be prepared for some routes looking great on paper but awful in real life!

In Dolgellau you will be travelling huge distances to do anything, into England for any kind of affiliated competition. There is a good horse vet based at the Dolgellau practice but not an equine practice as such. Farriers ditto, you will not have lots of choice and will be waiting until they’re next in the area to have that lost shoe put back on.

Depends what you want to do. Just hacking etc you’ll be grand. Anything else, you’ll need to enjoy being on the road.

Thank you. I slightly feared that might be the case.
