Hi
In 2019 season I started competing be at 80 level from may onwards. We had entered our first 90 which was abandoned. I entered them all on tickets.

I'm looking at my options for next season and whether a full membership for me and the horse would be worthwhile or a waste of money.

Looking at starting in march and competing in 1 or maybe 2 events a month. Starting at 80 and maybe looking to move up mid season. Would like to attempt to qualify for 80 champs but I'm also aware that pigs don't fly.

Thank you in advance

I've done something similar, BE say if you are doing 80s or a maximum of 4 events then it is not worth being a full member (or at least assuming your horse is not already registered). I'd see how your year goes and if you get 3 or 4 90s in then just go for full then

You can do as many as you like be80 on a ticket but for be90 and above you can only use a maxium 4 in a season. But by doing 5 you are cheeper for full membership anyway.

I did a full this year for the first time as the plan was to go once every 3/4 weeks, only made it to one event as others were abandoned mostly or i ended up working. Now thinking there's not much point again.

BE membership seems to be a complete waste of money whichever way you do it. We also lost our 6 day tickets we were stupid enough to buy In 2019 thinking that you might get to compete but the weather and balloting process put paid to that. So this year went for full membership and so far have failed to do a single event. Does anyone know how to use the balloting system as they don’t tell you? There is no support for new members but they take your money quick enough. So disillusioned thinking of giving up entirely. Can’t really afford this so Anyone thinking about joining take care!

Tlee, you can always email or ring up BE if there is anything you don’t understand. Ballot priority stickers are just that, they have the months on them and you choose which event that month is most imported to you. It gives you a better chance of getting in.
With things just starting back up, we have just used a priority sticker for July event next week as it’s the only July event we will do. Good thing we did as they balloted out as many as they accepted.
In a normal year we get our money’s worth from joining, but generally speaking, Eventing is hugely expensive, it needs to be your thing and how you choose to spend your money.
This year as we had been nowhere before lockdown we wondered whether to compete on a ticket but so glad we rejoined. Got horse in on a half year registration but he has been registered for the past two years. Sadly they don’t do half year for the rider as it’s a rolling subscription but at least now it will last till this time next year.

You should have been able to claim back the cost of your tickets if you were balloted/ the events were abandoned- all the info is on the BE website.
As for the ballot process for this year, choose 2 events you most want to do and use your super ballots on those and then you have a monthly ballot sticker as well for other events you would like to do. Of course it's unusually busy at the moment due to Covid-19.
