Whats the dates you have to accieved your double clears by?
We have got all b.novice double clears between 20.05.11-24.06.11, am i right in thinking i will have qualified second rounds for 2012?

Thanks.

Thanks Kat, least my next years second rounds she will be hopefully used to jumping the higher jumps!
Aiming for the remaining few discovery ones now.

Yeah sounds good! We gave the 2nd rounds a miss this year as didn't feel we were established enough... so will aim for them next year when we've done a few more bigger classes and have a bit more mileage :) Pleased to hear your mare's going well though :D

Am about to join up myself and start working on some DC's, but to save me ploughing through all the info - how many DC's do we need qualify for 2nd rounds? And how big do the jumps get in 2nd round?!

4 DC's Ecrozier. Second round starts at 1.05 and goes on for 3 rounds... so Jump off 1.10/1.15, and last JO is normally about 1.20+ You have to go very quick and get triple clears to qualify for the final! I thought it would be too much for madam (and me!) this year, so am going to aim for Amateur second rounds, so keep winnings low, get some mileage at bigger classes, and then aim for secon rounds next year :D

You need 4 DC. If it's the British Novice you want, it starts off around 1m / 1.05ish and by the thrid round could get up to 1.15m

Thanks Kat, shes coming on well got two amateur 1st rounds to do on sat with her, and may take her for a novice workers sun as my other boys doing the open workers.

Im glad i hadnt a qualified this year, as like you say we wouldnt be ready to jump the second rounds yet.

Yowsers yes I can see why it's a lot for a young horse! Be nice to be able to say we had enough DC's to qualify though, but can't see us being ready to jump 120 anytime soon.
May look into the amateur second rounds instead as an aim for this year ;) are they a bit smaller?!

I did the 1m finals in 2009 and it was a lot better. The qualifing rounds at the finals are the same height as the 1st rounds locally. In the actual final they do go up a bit but i think some fences were pushing 1.10m in the 1m final so not as bad.

You do have to go very quick though. I saw some poines in the 90cm who wouldn't be out of place on the race track :)

Yep :) You'll jump about 1m/1.05m in the 90cm Amateur final I believe... only downside is they are "open" classes, so people can ride a Grade A horse in the class if they so wish!! You qualify by getting placed in the top 6 in a first round class :)

Amateur first rounds go from 80cm, 90cm, 1m, 1.10m upton 1.15m, you have to come in top 6 in a frist round qualifier, then enter a second round to get chance to qual for final which has been held at Aintree for the last few years.

Kat- you then have to come in top 12 in a second round (and jump 1st round clear) to qualify for finals at Aintree.

Where are the amatuer finals being held this year? Aintree is a trek for me i hope they are at Addington :)

It might be a treck but well worth it! I go there a lot and its 2 hours for me but that doesnt bother me as the people are great and very helpful, the facilities are amoungst the best i have ever seen and the finals have an amazing atmosphere even last year when temperatures fell to -15!! They put some peopls up in accomodation on site due to the cold, they were jump starting all of the lorries and offered for people to stay free of charge after the show if they were stuck getting home because of snow. They honestly cant do enough for you and im glad they have the FInals again this year as they really do deserve them :)

Someone above commented that heights are from 80cm to 1.15m but actually they start at 90cm (sorry) the finals for the 90cm and 1m are 5cm bigger as are the 2nd round quals. They are hot classes but if you get through to the grand finals they are more about riding well and horses that can jump (although you still have to put your foot down). I have friends from the south who are more than happy to travel up there to the finals because of the fantastic experience they have had in the past, even if their horses didnt go that well :D

Re BN 2nd rounds, I've put a link to vid of mine on 'proudest moments' thread. Was about 8 years ago and vid not great quality but shows all 3 rounds to give you an idea of height. one thing i would say is you need a very careful horse to qualify. were about 80 in our 2nd round and we were 3rd and qualified for final purely due to triple clear. I think there were only about 6 of us who made it through both jump offs without tipping a pole :)

have friends who did amateur finals last time and had a blast but pack a few hot water bottles, apparently was a little chilly :p

Sounds like a great show but about 4hours for me :( maybe if i had someone to go with that would share diesel i would consider it. My lorry has no heating so i would probably freeze!

I lived in Berkshire when i went and it took me 4 hours there and about 3 1/2 hours on the way back (I had my sister's lorry and it goes above 60mph :p)

I travelled on my own, people were very friendly and i just spoke to random people. I didn't have any heating either but it wasn't too cold that year and no snow.

The down side was the warm up, very packed, not sure if that's sorted now. Up side was you can use the all weather gallops which are on the inside of the race track.

I would deffo go again. Couldn't go out much to qualify this year but aiming for it again next year. Although the venue might move again by then.

I will probably do a few qualifiers this year and if I went I'd be going alone! Probably 4 hours away for me - in South Bucks. I don't mind going to stuff like that on my own, people are usually pretty friendly!

I'd also be going on my own, probably with a tent too, as my lorry is a scruffy old 3.5 tonne!! However, I'm quite keen to try! ;)

im only 30 mins away from Aintrre, so if i managed to get to the final i wont have far to travel. As Escada said everyone at Aintree are lovely and friendly.

Hope we all get there, we could have a hho get together!
