Hi. I want to go and do my first BN. Went to dean valley and did the 85cm but the BN is run 2 phase and seemed very up to height. The 2nd half of the course just seemed a bit too big and I was wondering which shows might be a bit kinder to a genuinely novice horse and scardey cat rider? Thanks.

Hi, I know what you mean about the difference in heights but the second half of the course is meant to be slightly bigger. I don't think I've actually been in a BN class that hasn't been up to height yet.
You might find that the more shows you to go the more the height doesn't bother you, either that or just do some unaffiliated shows to get some confidence first.
Try Church Farm, its a lovely show, I did my first BN there.

I 'd try to do your unaffiliated at the same venue you'll be trying your BN. It helps your confidence if the arena is familiar and you've both seen most of the fillers before at a smaller height! I like Aintree and Myerscough best due to the surfaces, and the extra space.

look out for single phase BNs. But BN generally is 90cm approx and goes up for the second half/jump off. Then Disco is 1m appox. Try doing some amateur classes like the 85cm at dean valley , 95 etc. or do some open classes. Aintree did a 80cm open the other week which was single phase . good luck
