Just seen the above article title on the H&H website and confess I didn’t know anything about it. My horse has an Italian passport and I’ve owned him for about 13 years. Does anyone know if this means I have to get a new passport for him? He is, of course, microchipped. Had a quick look on the DEFRA site but couldn’t see any information.

I assume this would apply to all horses imported from the ROI as well? This is the first that I have heard of this

Re the ROI I think it depends - Irish thoroughbreds are in the same stud book at UK ones. My former racehorse was bred in Ireland and I suddenly panicked when registering with BD that he was an imported horse and as an 8 year old would immediately get points on his record but no he wasn't imported for their purposes.

This was discussed on the forum about 18 months ago. As I understand it you don't need a new passport - simply to also register the details with a British Passport Issuer as well.

I attach a link to the BEF form to do this - I assume other organisations do this but when researching to get mine updated (Irish passport) found information hard to find.

Seems like a good idea. Here in a Ireland we are obliged to register our premises if we keep horses, mules or donkeys and get issued with a herd number so outbreaks of disease can be better controlled.
