i loooooooveee racing and dont give a damn about wages or long hours if im around horses, so i think being a racehorse groom would be a good job for me (not forever obviously, id like to groom for an eventer at some stage to) iv got work experience at a trainers for june, so that would help me decide but obviously id have to go to either the northern racing college or british racing school so which is best?? any advice and reviews welcome :)

Both are very highly rated and the qualifications from the two are the same, though there are slightly different length of courses depending on which you go to. I know they used to do taster days not sure if they still do but both are very professional so I would suggest giving either or both a ring and have a chat about what you are looking to do.

Also re wages etc, racing has minimum wage rates and terms of employment for staff and stable staff get a percentage of prize money as well.

I visited the British Racing School at the beginning of this month. I'd love to go there if I wasn't going to uni! It's lovely, friendly, organised and just a very pleasant place to be.

Can't comment on NRC though.

I lived with someone who went to the BRS and although he loved it he said he'd have rather gone to the NRC, which is where I went. Seriously - best 3 months of my life! The horses were amazing - so fantastic that I have rehomed my favourite from the college 3 years later!
Definately recommend the NRC, and I'm from Norwich which BRS would have made more sense, but going for interviews at both I chose the NRC....and I'm glad I did.
The instructors are amazing, good yard placements after, lovely horses, good environment and atmosphere - great fun!!!
