Wondered if anyone could help me. My horse broke his last rib some 18 months ago as a 4yr old. Unfortunately it took a while to diagnose it and during that time we had a lot of behavioural problems including rearing, bucking and napping which at the time we put down to his age. eventually as the callous formed on the rib a lump was discovered. he was xrayed and it confirmed a badly broken rib. He then had 6 months off but when we started to work him again the behavioural problems started again and his reactions indicated he was in pain still. he had the rib removed and 6 months later we are trying to work him again. he is once again reluctant to move forwards and is looking slightly lame on a circle. structurally i have been told there is nothing wrong with him now and have been told there is nothing more that can be done. i just wondered if anyone had any suggestions as i am coming to the end of the road with him. he is a fabulous looking horse and healthy in every other respect. he is very well bred and i feel its a big waste of a life.

Ok.....mine broke the second under the saddle where your thigh sits, he fell in the stable on box rest and banged in to a small rounded corner of wall.
He had massive haematoma for weeks, and Mr Vet and I decided to try Bowen as the horse was very depressed and grumpy and on painkillers....and I have to say.....the treatments worked and he responded amazingly well.
We did not have to remove the rib...and he still has a very slight filling where the injury occurred...but we get around this with an elasticated girth. You can now prod and poke and he doesn't notice.
The Bowen helped with the trauma his body underwent during the accident....so if you are not sure how your accident happened...may be it is the lingering effects of the trauma causing the issues? Would it be worth a try?
My boy is now back in full work.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
