Anyone else done this? How well do they heal? I think its fairly clean from what a and e said but ill know more on thursday when i get to see the specialist.

For those who fancy a chuckle - i managed to do this mounting! A severe overestimation of momentum required to mount a 14.2 saw me do an ill-executed and unexpected vault over the pony. landed on the shoulder and heard a crack. bums!

My OH had a rotational, broke his shoulder and popped out his AC joint (or something like that.....!).

He didnt ride for about 8 weeks but felt he could have SAT on a horse at 6. However, he found he had very little strength for a long time, and wouldnt have wanted to ride a difficult horse that soon.

Good luck! Take the painkillers!

VERY rare injury - I did it two years ago and had the whole of A&E oohing and ahing around the xray picture. My consultant told me to use it as much as I could. So I did. I waited about a week before I rode, indoors, one-handed and then went on from there. He was stunned a couple of weeks later when he saw how much movement I had in it. They heal fine, they are surrounded and supported by a nice lot of muscle. The problem with shoulders is that they seize up - use it if you can!

If you have been given tramadol be very careful, it's effectively heroine, and addictive. I didn't take any of mine, but I have an officially recognised incredibly high pain threshhold.

Oh yes, mind which horse, you'll have no strength in it at all to hold a horse that doesn't want to be held! And lifting a saddle to tack up - interesting :D
