Hey up all.. thought i'd ask for an opinion from some like minded people..

I was just getting the boys ready to load so we could go jumping last night when my big beast jumped and landed on me in such a way i have split my big toe down the middle, broken the end off and broken another bone a bit further up. This is soooo annoying and seriously inconvenient especially as my youngsetr is just starting to be awesome!

I reckon i could be back in a big boot and back on in a week?

Anyone broken toes.. how long until you were back out, about and riding?

OH reckons at least three weeks.. surely not?

Your OH is right, you might be able to ride once or twice but then it will hurt more than before and you will damage it permenantly! Sorry :p

Awwww not good, hope you have a speedy recovery! <<Hugs and Vibes>>

Thought i broke my foot yesterday as bathing my boy who isn't a fan of being bathed and he shot forward and he stood on my foot and he accidentally ran into me to BANG!! next im lying on my back soaking wet looking up at my boy and he looking down at me :o I couldn't move my foot all evening but luckily a good nights rest and was just very very bad bruising and very sore!!

Not much help, sorry, hope you better soon xx

(Glad i didn't break foot yesterday, imagine going to new college with broken foot lol)

My filly trood on my toes two weeks ago. X-rays came up with no fracture, but it still hurts a lot!

The problem with feet is that inflammation/bruising is hard to shift due to gravity and the blood just mingles. So it's best to try to dip your feet in very cold water and keep leg elevated as much as possible to help bring the swelling down.

Hope you feel better soon.

I rode with 4 broken toes after about a week, but that was all no stirrup work - improved my balance loads
i would just go with whatever is comfortable you don't wnat to do any more damage

6 weeks in plaster for me but it was broken much further up the foot.

Other break to the foot took 6 months in plaster but thats another story!

Just be careful with it and not too much stress as you'll pay for it later, sounds nasty.

Have broken both big toes in my time. Riding again in a week - inpain - and went to a Hunt Ball in wellies 2 days after one breakage.

Word of warning. The troublem come much later in life. I used to be in a lot of pain from both, due to arthritis setting in. But after about 10 years of discomfort they have both fused - i.e. they don't bend at all, which makes wearing fashionable shoes a no-no, but the pain then went. Sorry to be gloomy.

When my old pony danced on my foot, he broke my big toe ripping the nail off as well. t got infected and i ended up 3 days n hopsital on an intervenous drip!! With that complication i think i didn't rde for about 6 weeks.

Any form of break / fracture takes about 10 days to stabilise... Have broken toes twice.

My last break did so much soft tissue damage that I had to have the cast off cos the foot looked like a blown up rubber glove when I put my foot down... :( Didn't stop me going up to the yard to see my boy.

But.... my advice would be to let the toes heal properly or you will be storing up HUGE trouble for yourself later, n then it'll be too late to do anything about it. :(

Patience...

Hugs..... :)

Thank you for all your responses, looks like i'm going to have to sit tight and be patient. I'm on crutches and in bed trying to take it easy after reacting to codine.. Horrible! RICE... REST ICE COMPRESSION AND ELEVATION .. Agh so boring! :-(
