Now i work on a livery yard and about 2 weeks ago when bringing one of the horses in from the field, it spooked and knocked me over. As well as standing on my legs, i fell on my wrist and i have fractured my radius :(
I am in a cast to just below my elbow.
What i am wondering is my family have advised me to seek compensation as it was an accident at work. I am wanting to know if anyone else has claimed or know of any instances where someone may have claimed for being injured at work with horses?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I think working with horses you just have to accept injuries like these can happen and they are nobody's fault. But that's just my opinion :)

I agree with Montyforever. A groom of mine tried to sue me when he broke his foot after being trodden on.

He lost as the judge said that working with horses one has to accept that there is a risk.

You will only get compensation if your employer is proved negligent ie if there was something they could reasonably have been expected to do which would have reduced the risk of the incident occuring. If all risks had been minimized and it was a genuine accident then its just something you have to accept. If its a proper job (ie they have your national insurance number) and you're off sick until it heals, your employer can claim statutory sick pay for you from the government.

Thank you for your answers. Thats what i have said to my family that it is just one of those things. The only negligence could maybe be that i was working alone, which in itself isnt very safe, but in the circumstances luckily it wasn't serious and i could get up and walk away. If i had been unconcious god knows how long it would have been until i was found.
I was just seeking some advice, thank you.
