Found out yesterday I've been going about with a scaphoid fracture for 5 weeks. Horse tripped and I fell onto her neck and my wrist. Had it checked out at the time but doctor though it was just a sprain and didn't x ray. Went back yesterday and this time x ray was done!

Thing is they have given me a brace to wear and said someone will be in touch regarding whether or not it needs plaster!

I am wondering how long I'll be out of action for riding and what I will be able to do if it is in a cast.

Any experiences anyone?

I had a dislocated elbow, it didn't need a full cast just half a one. I was told no riding for 3 months but I got back on after 6 weeks :) Just hacking though. It had stopped hurting, I was just having physio for my wrecked ligaments by then and she said do what you feel you can.

Errmmm i also have a scaphoid fracture and for the moment been in plaster for 7 weeks probaly going to be longer as they set it wrong causing me agony! :( i would make sure they do everything they can for you as it hasnt been in plaster so might be a problem healing it!

I had a scaphoid fracture a few years ago, didn't want it plastered so the hospital were happy to let me just have a brace for it. Was back riding the next day and haven't had any problems with it since.

Healing vibes coming your way :)

I broke my radius last year. Was put in plaster and went cross country schooling the following day! :o I haven't had any problems with it since. Healing vibes being sent your way! :)

broke bones in my right hand back in June
I rode after a few days off (don't like riding on pain-killers that make me feel woosey) but even with cast from fingers to elbow still managed most things. Doing up girth was about the only thing i couldn't manage with my useless left hand:D

loving how hard core everyone is with riding in plaster etc. I am hoping i'll still be able to work and drive etc. with cast on if I have to have one. Was a bit sad watching my riding buddy cruise off today without me. pony wasn't too upset at getting a groom (left handed) and a feed lol!

I broke my scaphoid too when I was in my early teens. I was in plaster with the wrist bent back - bit awkward. I did carry on riding but my parents didn't know - a friend would ride my horse with me walking then as soon as we got to a field I'd jump on, have a gallop and she would ride back home again!
Hope it heals soon
