Hi,

I've put a post in the lounge but it will probably get buried. Can anyone reccomend somewhere which fixes/replaces the zips on long leather boots. I burst one today while riding round, zip bit has come off the teeth. They are hardly worn in but ive had them too long to take back, but cant afford another pair..

Help please

I took my boots to a local cobler. I know they are now very few and far between but he charged me £5. I felt awful and offered him more (more fool me) but he wouldnt take it and was happy with just £5.

I totally agree with louby, When i broke the zip on my boots, saddler said would be cheaper to buy a new pair, general shoe repairer £100, local cobbler £5.
Look in yellow pages for a cobbler may have further to travel but surley not £95 worth of petrol

I got mine done through Timpson - branches in most towns. It cost 55 quid for the pair. I would have sent them up to the Sidcup place but was too lazy to post - wish I had knowing that they can do it for 40!!

Take them to your local shoe repairers. Be prepared for some expense, mine have quoted me £2 per inch. Doesn't sound a lot, but when you think that the zips are at least 16inches on each boot, and my daughters boots both need repairing, so that's about £64!

Took my boots today to the place I mentioned in Kent further up this thread and they were superb. They are replacing the zip in one of my boots, reheeling them both with steel quarters on the toe and heel like the cavalry have and putting tough new soles on both boots for just over £60 ! They will be almost as good as new and ready in ten days - top result!
