I have a 16.1hh bay 5yo ISH mare by cut the mustard / nininsky/ nijinsky who was kicked 3months ago, she did her tendon sheath but this has now healed, she needs 6months off but if i get a tendon scan done i'll know exactly how long she will need off. she may be able to be ridden again but due to lack of funds I am going to have to sell her, she's never been lame with this injury and it has healed up completely in 3months, she is a lovely mare, nice paces, temperament, good to catch/box etc. Question is how much do you think I should advertise her at after xmas?
Heres a pic (crap off a phone and in sepia!)

Not sure if she looks like the type of mare I would breed from if I'm honest. Will be interesting to see what others views are.

I would say £1,000 max.

Agreed, I only paid £1500 for a better bred mare (out of racing) in foal to a well bred stallion and the mare was proven.

I agree with above comments, IMO I wouldn't pay over a grand for her...only this summer I bought a blue blooded WB broodmare for £800. Plus, whilst the mare looks sweet and all, I personally wouldn't breed from her based on that pic...sorry...

TBTH I don't pay more than £800 for her. Sorry

Its just my friend bought a broodmare 2 years ago who is by Dutch Gold, had a competition record (although short) and was a proven broodmare for £500.

What a sweet looking mare............

I would advertise her as a potential eventing broodmare, put her in h&h £1000 and under section at £1000, unfortunately its the wrong time for selling broodmares that aren't in foal because the stud season over and the buyer wouldn't get to cover her until next season now, if you waited til Spring to advertise you may get a little more but then you would have spent the little more you get to keep her over the winter. Ive paid anything between £500 and £4000 for my broodmares not in foal - £500 for a TB off the track to £4000 for sound young talented and rideable branded Hannovarian mare. Unfortunately its a buyer market for broodmares that are broodmares due to injury and they don't fetch alot unless they have exceptional breeding and/or good competition records, but she has got going for her a good pedigree and she is young!! At only 5yos someone should get plenty of foals out of her

Thanks HG im going to have to wait until next year to sell her, She can have a tendon scan in a few months to see exactly how long she will need off, so i may be able to ride her again, but if i cant I will have to sell her as a broodmare. Its just a case of waiting and seeing! I was planning on bsja or BE with her, but a week and 3days after i bought her she got kicked

She has done abit of everything up to 3ft

As has been said above, it's the wrong time of year to be selling a open mare - although I note that you wouldn't be wanting to let go of her quite yet anyway, so that's no bother to you.

Come the spring you may get a little more than the figures quoted, but it does depend entirely on who is looking for a horse when you want to sell, if that isn't a silly thing to say.

Good luck with your decisions either way..
