Hello,

I was wondering what type of insurance people have for their broodmares.

Any info would be much appreciated,

Thank you

I have plain leisure horse insurance from KBIS which covers her for foaling as well as for normal living; she's only covered for death by accident, disease or injury, I don't do vet cover and I don't cover the unborn foal either as it is so expensive, (if I was using mega expensive stallions it would be worth it though).

NFU are good, you can also pay a bit more and cover the foal even before it is born and can claim back stud fees etc if foal is lost, also they will then insure the foal from day one where as most others wont cover foal til 30 days old.

my mare was insured with nfu and i just obtained a foaling extension, it cost me about £120 and covered the foal before and after up until 30 days old

Mine are insured with South Essex Insurance Brokers (SEIB) - as are all my horses. I have found them very good in the past in terms of paying out (my old horse had bad azotoria once and they pid quickly and without a fuss...

I have mine covered for death/theft/straying/vets but not right up to market value - I really only have it to cover any ongoing vets fees.
