Our broodmare was covered by a stallion recently, everyday for 7 days 2 weeks ago until the stallion wasn't interested anymore, and since the covering she has been running with a herd of mares and the stallion. We have had to move her today to a seperate field as she won't let the stallion near the other mares. She is showing in season all the time although the stallion is quite obviously not interested in her.
Does this sound normal and will she eventually be able to go out with the broodmares and stallion again?

One of my broodmare that went out on loan a couple of years ago, did exactly the same thing. She was running with the stallion and after he had covered her she became very possessive over him and wouldn't let him near the other mares.

She had to be removed from the field, to give the other mares a chance. She was showing in season, but proved to be in foal after scans

She is back in the herd with my broodmare and I will be using AI on her, she is no problem in the field with the other mares, but we don't have a stallion running with them, she however, has always been quite a dominant mare.

Are you going to get your mare scanned?

This sounds bad but I am really not sure. After doing lots of research etc we decided to go with natural covering and letting mmare run witht he herd etc and had kind of thought that maybe we would let nature run its course. However as she seems to be always showing in season i think we might have to re think and maybe get her scanned. What do you guys think?

Yes, no question, check for twins and also if the mare isn't cycling normally then you need to know exactly what is going on.

I would not worry too much about her coming into season my mare was scanned in-foal but carried on coming into season. It is sensible though to scan the mare, not just for twins, but if there is a problem with fluid etc, you will then be aware of any problems.

i have had several visiting mares like that this yr but the stallion has managed to sort it out himself which is good, would prob be better to scan, we dont usually unless i have doubts about any of them. but this yr i will be doing everyone.
