I'm sure that this has been done before many times but it really bugs me.... why do people think that because their horse has become unrideable it makes ideal breeding stock? A horse with behaviour/temperament issues, or soundness problems, is by its very nature NOT an ideal broodmare because in many cases those problems may be inherited.
In fact thinking about it, it seems some people think that just because it has ovaries and a uterus, any horse is a good broodmare... someone on our yard is thinking about putting an ex-racer mare into foal; she has very poor conformation and even worse, he's actually considering it because there's a local 2 yo colt available to provide the service. I mean, wtf? Are there not enough poorly-bred, unwanted equines knocking about without adding to the problem?
Sorry, rant over now but it does really annoy me!
