Specifically for Workers and Coloured classes (where the horse in question will be shown as a riding horse). Are they a total no-no? I know that they're technically correct with tweed but don't often see people wearing them. Is this because they don't have them or because it's frowned upon?

I was thinking 'yes' to wearing them for workers and maybe 'no' to the coloured class?

I know that I used to be a showing groom but the yard specialised in LW hunters and I didn't once see a pair of brown boots in the ring!

You are not aloud to wear boots in a flat show class. You are aloud to wear them for the jumping phase of a workers but they must be removed before the flat show.
If that makes any sence to you. Hope it is of some help.

Thank you :). I was reasonably sure that they're allowed, just not sure whether it was 'done'!. There's nothing worse than standing out for the wrong reasons. They're considerably smarter and ft better than my black ones otherwise there would be no contest.

I've always shown in black boots. Never seen brown ones to be honest. I can't see why it would be a problem though. But like you say theres nothing worse than standing out for the wrong reasons. I totaly imbarest myself in my first show hunter class as i went in wearing a blue show jacket, With black tack and i hadn't trimed my horse :o We still came second but the judge was very nice and explained all my faults. The next class we did we won. :D

If you are wearing tweed then it is perfectly ok to wear brown boots.

However, in riding horse classes you may not see as many brown boots....suppose as riding horses are less workman like than the hunters and more towards the showier hacks.

I have a young coloured horse and I shall be wearing brown boots if i ever decide to show him in riding horse classes (he is more an eventer - I hope!). I think that brown boots look really smart on coloureds.....

I've seen brown boots quite a bit, mainly in cob classes, but sometimes in RH. There is one top producer - maybe Lynn Russell? - who wears them frequently. I actually think they look rather good with tweed!

Lynn Russell wears brown, but seeing has she shows predominantly cobs plus is a pro - gets away with it. I'd risk it for workers, but not for Riding Horse. I've never seen brown boots in a RH class.

That sort of fits with what I was thinking! I'll wear them for workers and not for the coloured class. It is a mixed pulled and plaited ridden coloured class. I think mine is a smidge too fine for a small hunter so will be showing hm in RH turnout ie. coloured browband and slightly finer bridle.

FA - Now that you mention it I have definitely seen Lynn Russell in them.

AR - yeah, but at least I'll be jumping and galloping. Can't remember being allowed to do either of those in Elementary dressage tests! ;)

I wear brown boots, brown tweedy jacket with large check and brown velvet hat for Working hunter and Ridden Hunter!

I couldn't really comment on the coloureds though!!

I love my brown boots and would wear them for any showing classes....mainly because that is all i have!!

Good luck showing ;-p sounds like a lark!

Have to say I was under the impression that brown long boots are quite fashionable now so I would not see a problem. I am sure that so long as you are in tweed, as you would be for riding horse classes, then you will be fine in brown boots.

So go for it!

Personally if you have long boots in black, I'd be inclined to wear those. Yes, there are a few people who show in brown boots and Lynn Russell famously does, but there's a difference between the professional producer who everyone knows and the amateur trying to compete with them. You will look more professional in black boots, which will reflect better on your horse.

i would go in brown boots for hunters and workers and cobs, and black in riding horse classes! dark brown tack every time! self colored trim fitting numnah and leather girth! to eliminate risk take both pairs of boots with you and get ready for a quick change in collecting ring if in doubt! dont think there is a strictly correct right or wrong, standards change between local and county, and also depends what blends best with your tweed jacket, your hat and gloves. breeches (cream beige or yellow) the color of your tack and horse, your shirt and tie/or stock! a blending complimentary color scheme is best. but the main thing is a well schooled good conformation horse which gives the judge a fantastic ride!
