My OH horse (17.2hh warmblood) has a bruise on his sole. No it's not cresent shaped before you ask :) the farrier came a couple of days ago and as the horse was not 100% asked him to look. There is a red bruise about the size of a 50p piece on the right edge of the sole:( The farrier has reshod him and put a gel hardener in to help cushion it. We had hoped for great results but he is still sore. This has been about 10 days now, so my question is, how long do most people find their horses take to heal...we have an important show coming up, but don't know if to withdraw or not. Any help, comments or advise appreciated. Thanks

Its an individual thing and varies from horse to horse, i usually give arnica and it settles in a week or so, but ive heard of some horses taking a few weeks for it to settle completely, i suppose it also depends on how the bruise was caused, and how deep it is, what did the farrier say? could there be more than bruising going on ?
I'd be inclined to let a vet have a look if the lameness was ongoing or i was worried about it

Thankyou Marydoll for your interest! I had hoped for a few more replies....:(
I am giving him arnica tablets at present....6 a day. Is that about right?
Farrier thought it wasn't much and that he would be sound in a couple of days....but he isn't. Yes I will get our vet to poke it as he is due on the yard soon.

Hya i think the amount of arnica depends on the strenghth youre using .
Is it possible the horse could have jerked or went over on his fetlock when he reacted to what he stood on, hopefully he's just a bit if a wuss who is making the most of the time off, i hope he picks up soon  bloomin horses
