My horse went lame about 4 weeks ago and is still lame though a little bit better.

I have had the vet (once) and farrier (3 times). There was some tenderness at the front of the foot and some slight discolouration on the hoof - possibly bruising. She was kept in for a week and poulticed and hot tubbed, but then turned out as she started to box walk and get very het up.

This horse is horrible with vets and I don't want to go down the investigation route - we may find out what it is but there is a chance that she will end up a physco (I have spent 6 years turning her from a horse with issues to a bascially reallly good girl.)

Can bruising really take that long to heal - or am I kidding myself, is there probably something else happening if its been going on this long?

i thought my mare had a abcess in her foot and was lame for about a week had the farrier out twice and couldn't find anything except a bruised heel and sole and she is stll lame he said it will just right itself and to put iodine on the foot to harden it up, i would try not worry.

my pony brusied his foot and i kept him in until like 5pm and then let him out on a small flat paddock for a few hours before bringing him in and i gave him some bute for the pain and hot tubbed he got better within about 2/3 weeks

AGES!! It just depends on how deep the bruising is, but i wouldnt worry just yet. I'd tub every day with 'as hot as tolerable' water with epsom salts in it to draw the bruise and apply arnica cream and feed arnica tablets. If you have magnetic boots they increase blood flow and can disperse the bruising faster

My horse has had bruising a couple of times this year. The first time it took 3 weeks! the second time about 2 weeks.

I can't keep him in tho, so it probably would't take as long if he'd been in, but i tried to keep him in and he didn't like being on yard on his own and kept booting the walls smashing his legs up instead, i decided it wouldn't hurt to keep him out.
