My 23 year old 17hh warmblood has become suddenly lame in front. The vet dignosed an exacerbation of arthritis which he does have in some joints. She advised an increase to his normal long term bute and turn out. 3 days on he is no better and this morning I have found bruising and swelling to the bulb of his heel which I'm hoping is the cause of the lameness. I would be grateful for any advice on ways to help him. He is currently on two butes a day and remains turned out as this is better for his long term condition. He has one mate in the field with him(a 27 year old who is fairly calm)

Hi, sounds like an over-reach injury to me. Bute is a good idea for the pain and inflammation - but to help prevent further injuries buy some overreach boots/bell boots to stop him hitting his heels

Alternativley he may have stepped on something - in which case resting him and cold hosing for a few days should do the trick

Good luck!
