My horse unfortunately had a mad 5 minutes in the field the other day and fell on his near side. He jumped back up and continued messing about. However, I believe he is slightly lame in trot, so I have just walked him for 3 days (ridden) and not turned out. Today he is quite sore to the touch, however there is no heat or swelling. Does anyone have any advice, should I presume this is just bruising and what action should I take next. I have been giving him arnica and muscle embrocation. Many thanks

One of mine is prone to shoulder troubles, I find that a visit from the McTimoney lady puts him right straight away. Arnica will not do any harm either.

Personally I would have rested him and given the vet a ring for advice. Sounds like he may have tweaked a muscle and may actually be better turned out so he can walk it off. Vet would be able to advise you if bute needed to take away inflammation and pain.

Thanks for advice. Managed to get a physio today and luckily it not too bad, bit tight and bruising on nr shoulder nr withers, been manipulated and should be fine. Bless him. Darent turn out in case he goes mad again and slips again. He not a headcase really but he does like a good gallop around the field now and again.
