My girly pulled a shoe XC Thurs night - we think she overreached and pulled it off as she was only shod on the Tues. Farrier came the next day and she was quite crippled on that foot - lame in walk and unable to turn - she had the shoe put back on and 24 hrs box rest. The farrier thought she must of bruised her heel and sole (ground very hard).

She is now sound in walk but still a bit lame in trot - every time she hits a stone or the ground is uneven.

Im just letting her chill out in the field (albeit hard ground) and not doing any ridden work.

Anything else I can do to make her better or is it just giving her more time! Never had a problem with lameness with her before and she is normally in fairly hard work so just want to get her right.

It can take up to 3 weeks for a bruise to resolve; and every time she hits it, it really hurts - and will slow the recovery. I know it's a bad time of year for patience; but if you push things while it is still bruised, it will take even longer. A pad might help if you are desperate, but see what your farrier says.

If you are into homeopathic remedies try arnica and bellis perennis (available from Ainsworths or Galen by mail-order).

Pads are a good short term solution as is equipak
if you dont want to go down that route arnica is a great suppliament for healing bruises.
Painting the soles with hoof hardener.
