As in the title really, one of the horses had new shoes on today and we noticed he had red bruising in the shape of the pedal bone. Is this due to the usual standing on a stone/hard ground or could it be something else? Someone mentioned laminitis to me but the horse has never had it.
He's not lame either...

He may not have been lame that you saw (were you riding when it was icy, was he "short on both fronts ie bilaterally equally lame, did he potter a bit on the frozen ruts???) but I would be certain that your horse had laminitis during the winter frosts. The mark you mention is typical several weeks/months AFTER the attack. Watch him like a hawk with the spring grass.
