Would a bruised sole cause heat in pastern ? Horse became lame whilst out on a hack and I am wondering if he stood on a stone, v. flinty round here. We only walked and did v short trot and he seemed OK, but stiff,. but he has arthritis and its been very damp. but when I tried a trot halfway round he was really lame. He has very flat feet so finds stony ground painful. Couldnt see any bruising and no heat yesterday but warm today back of pastern

Hiya
Could even be an abcess you know, been the right weather for them, horrible things , if he will stand with his foot in a bucket of warm water do this and stick an anlmalitex on wet (soak in hot water till it cools enough to apply)and vet wrap in on, do the foot in bucket thing again the next day and repeat it the day after, this will help draw out any infection, if no better id get your farrier to have a look as they know more about feet than vets.

Just a thought, like u say could be bruising

Any soft spots on his soles, or tender to press on his soles? Farrier with hoof testers can find things.

I would go with either an abcess or a bruise.

Hello My horse badly bruised two of his feet and his whole lower legs swelled with a lot of heat. Was fine in a couple of days though with anti inflammatries (sp).

Vet been, and it is an abcess! Bit of a relief, I was worried it was a flare up of his arthritis, although he has nto had it in that leg before. Good advice people !
