any way of indicating when the horse will be sound again?

horse was only lame in trot (i.e. not in walk) and only in the arena (which is unfortunately quite deep) - sound on a hard surface (and when loose/ridden in the field - which is currently a hard surface!!

he was lame last week (not last wednesday, but the wednesday before) and the farrier said to keep trying him until he came up sound, but i gave him until saturday off. he lunged sound on saturday, rode sound on sunday and i rode him monday-tuesday then gave him wednesday (i.e. last wednesday off) and he came back lame on thursday, which i find a bit confusing!! i assume he probably stepped on something in the field and made it worse! (they'd apparently all been galloping around)

lunged him yesterday and he is still lame...

so am i right in thinking a week or so off - or should i do as my farrier suggested keep trying him?

A horse on our yard has had a bruised sole and our farrier and the vet recommended policticing the problem hoof every other day for a couple of days to help take away any discomfort and box rest for a week on deep bedding avoid hard and uneven ground when caome out of box rest then trot up and hopefully be ok!

Bruised feet can be very hard to predict, can be either days or weeks.
What I do is box rest and trot up on soft, then hard ground(when sound on soft) every day.
When I am happy, they come back into work. If the horse comes sound on soft, and is taking his time coming sound on hard then I would consider gel pads.
