Bruised Soles

My horse only just coming back into work after an 18 month break, and last night bruised her sole. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help the healing process?

Also, any suggestions on pads/gel/silicone padding for when her shoes are replaced? (Did ask farrier last week when he shod her, but he hasn't had much experience with them)

I am going through same process after bringing my horse back from surgery.Mine has bruised frogs his soles are ok but his heels are low.I had natural balance shoes put on last week and he has really improved.The vet and farrier said gel pads are good for bruised soles can you ask about for another farrier until his feet recover.My vet told me to use danilon for anti inflammatory and arnica is supposed to be good for bruising.
 
I used a homeopathic remedy for Lacey, and it worked a treat.
Try Bellis Perennis. Got mine from Ebay!
 
Gel pads are great but very expensive. I personally think they are worth the money but mine suffers from constant bruised soles without them. They do often mean you need to shoe every six weeks, no longer. I tend to try and only use them in summer unless hacking/riding on hard ground.
 
Thanks for your replies. I've looked up both Bellis Perennis and Arnica, and it seems they should both do the trick.

I think I will go ahead with the gel pads when she is next shod. She's always done every 6 weeks anyway. Which pads do you use, and do you buy them direct or does the farrier get them?
 
Equi-pac gel pads are the best ones. A mesh is put onto the foot before the shoe then the equi-pac gel is injected into the mesh. I've never had a problem with them falling out before the horse is due to be shod so in that sense they are worth the money. Mine are shod every 10 weeks or so. One tube costs around £15 so if your horse hasn't got particularly large feet one tube should be enough for two. The farrier should order equi-pac in for you. Failing all that normal rubber pads with special silicone injected inbetween pad and foot seems to work very well also. I've found that these tend to fall out easier than equi-pac though. Good luck

i had that proplem but her on soft bedding for a couple of days and get some ecouliptase witch is an oil and piur it all over her hoofsa nd rub in with a tooth brush that will harden her hoofs up that worked for mine1
