I currently use a 'slicker' brush (think that's what it's called) on my mini schnauzer. Can anyone tell me is this the best sort to use for her or should I try something else? She hates getting brushed but it needs to be done with her long coat and she now thinks shes a labrador and goes off across fields and lots of mud whilst 'tracking' with them! I don't want to get it completely clipped short. (as she's a wee tub and looks silly!)

I've always used a horse rubber curry comb on our dogs (labs) as it's great for getting the dried mud off, and gets rid of the loose hair too

As she doesn't cast thankfully there isn't 'loose' air as such. Although I could use that on her body, sounds like a good idea. Wouldn't get leg and skirt tangles out...

You can buy brushes especially made for wirehaired coats. I've got one for my wirehaired dachshund. You may also want to get her hand stripped at the dog groomers, which will take out the dead undercoat but leave the lovely wirey coat on top
