Hi, has anyone else had a problem getting brushing boots to fit a 'stocky' legged horse? The new mare is starting to be lunged and I'd like to have some boots on her, I have a huge selection of boots but they all come up too long as to get the boot to go round her leg I have to use large ones. Is there any style of boot which is better? I like those reflective ones (equilibrum I think) but would they fit?

Any help appreciated.
Heres a pic of the beastie in question, ignore the feet that was just after we brought her.

They needed a bit of a trim.

Thorowgood do a good range of boots. They do COB sizes for short shocky legs and Warmblood for bigger boned longer legs. They're not a bad price either.

Thorowgood cob ones are a reasonable fit on my ID who has lots of bone but proportionatly short cannon bones. I need the warmblood ones on his hinds though.

Woof wide ones are also a fairly good fit.

If you have problems getting boots why not bandage her instead? I usually only boot for jumping, I normally use fleece bandages which will fit anything! You could always put pads underneath if you want a bit more protection.

Hmm bandaging, I've never actually tried it. I brought a set of four bandages once and they 'disapeared' hmph thats livery yards for you. I never even got round to using them. I'd be scared I'd put them on unevenly and cause pressure points? But I could get them in a nice colour I suppose

. I only want them for lunging and longreining as usually I don't like to put anything on my horses legs. But for chunky mare will probably need over reaches anyway.
Are the conform cob boots going to fit around her legs though? I want the short length but wide fit?
Thanks for all your help so far

Oh ok, will have a look at them then.

If I was to go for bandages, what type? Fleece or exercise? whats the difference... feeling very dumb. And can anyone recomend a decent make of bandages in hunter/emerald green?

If it's any help Jim has 9.5" of bone (more on the leg with the huge splint

) & the Thorowgood cob boots do up round that comfortably.

I prefer fleece bandages because I don't have to put pads underneath (but you could if you wanted to) & they aren't as easy to overtighten. If you're worried why not get someone who knows how they should fit to show you? Also if you put pads underneath they should reduce any potential pressure points. If you're feeling rich Equenox do lovely fleece bandages in loads of colours, as do Inch's Saddlery. I've also got some nice cheap JumperTec ones from www.4dobbin.co.uk (but look on equestrian clearance website for the colour chart!).

Just to update, went to the tack shop yesterday and had a chat with the nice lady there and decided upon some Equilibrum breathable exercise boots in a size 3... and tried them on today and.... they fit

She did walk funny in them for a bit, first time she's ever had boots on... And we did her first ever jump today (on the lunge), She was an angel, much better than her son and the nutty mare behaved today... the little monsters, anyway thats another story... Thanks for all your help guys. I have a long list of boots if I need to get her another pair. And miss stocky legs says thankyou too.
