I went to see a mare today,. She is perfect in everyway apart from burshes the top of the hooves together I could hear her brushing on every stride in walk. She was not too bad in trot and fine in canter and jumping... She is not very fit and only 5 is it likely to cause a problem

If frank wears o/r boots you can often hear them scrape together in walk only but we have never had a problem. But they do stand out more than his feet and he doesnt do it without boots.

does she have any white marks/scrapes indicating an issue.

The horse I bought a few months ago brushes... However, he just turned 5, and was extremely unbalanced when we got him (he looked drunk even in walk!) and now seems a lot better, though does still brush a little. We just make sure he has boots or bandages on whenever he is worked, especially for fast work/jumping. Spent a lot of time getting him to work well and think about his feet! Seems to be doing the job. If you like the mare, and she really does suit you, then I wouldn't worry too much about it?
I think the only reason I would think it a major issue is if you hunt/compete seriously when it could possibly cause problems? I'm not certain, I don't compete at a very high level at all so couldn't say! xD
