I want to get out competing with my horse (instead of just ferrying kids about everywhere!). I won’t be able to get out loads due to geography and time, but I do want to do something meaningful.

I’ve seen the BS 85cm amateur classes and there’s a stayaway coming up where I could get a few runs in. But I’m really struggling to find the rules on class heights! All I can see is ‘start height’ 85cm but how big can it go up to??

Don’t want to overcook myself as although he’s a good horse he’s only had 4 competitive runs ever and the last one was over a year ago.

I’ve been all through the (long!) rule book and I can’t find this info. Which seems to me a bit daft as it’s one of the most important things surely!?

Ditto Club 80. BN is out as I can’t jump 1.10m.

Amateur classes are quite kind, BS club classes are very kind. Generally expect 5cm bigger in the jump off (1 hole up)
BN would only be 1.10 in the second rounds, not in normal BN classes, so you should be safe jumping that too.

Thank you. I can’t find anywhere where it says 10cm bigger though? I even rang head office and they didn’t know? She just said ‘oh, not sure, maybe 5-10cm more? Don’t know. Not like 1m though.’

My nearest venues are over 2 hours away so I can’t go beforehand to watch unfortunately.

It's at the course builder's discretion. The only reason they would usually go as much as 10cm would be in a large class with loads of entries, and generally only if there's a separate jump off. That’s going to be pretty unusual at your normal shows.
