My daughter (who is 12 (nearly 13)) would like to have a go at BSJA jumping.

Where do we start?

Idiots guide please.

We have just bought her a 6 yr old 14.2 pony who hopefully has the potential to jump well. He has already been getting placed at local shows (with previous owner) up to 85cm.

I know we won't be going out tomorrow to do 1m classes or whatever, we're aiming at next spring or even the year after. I don't know.

Some pointers please on how to get started.

Thanks

Go and have some lessons with a good trainer, see what they say.You could always go to a low key bsja show that has clear round and just do that.Professional help is best!

Try contacting your local area rep, they will often point you in the right direction for trainers etc, if you are ok about going to shows and jumping 85cms, then maybe go and jump a British Novice on a ticket (day registration), this will help you see what goes on and you might some peole who will be able to help your daughter get the best out of the pony.
Good Luck xx

As others say really! Find a decent trainer and see how that goes and what they recommend you do. Might be a good idea to get out to regular unaffiliated SJ classes at 85cm to get used to the new pony, ideally try to be jumping a height bigger at unaffiliated as you would at BSJA just because I find in seniors that BSJA courses seem a bit bigger just because they tend to be more up to height with wider spreads etc.

Go along to the odd BSJA and try the clear round class. You can then walk the BN and see what your daughter feels. If she wants to do it then do it!

They have started novice classes now starting at 70cm trying to encourage people to go. There are only a few centres that are doing it though so you need to check. These are great confidence givers (MY DAUGHTER STARTED WITH THESE). you can also get good discounts when youfirst join if you in PC or reccomended. It cost about £44 for daughter and pony but bear in mind you will need to join too, im a member so i didnt have this extra cost. Go on web site is very informative.

Hope this helps
